The big question is why would the humans make such a thing? It looks more like an exoframe for assistance for moving. makes me think of those suits you draw that basically enslave the wearer to the station they are trapped on. But in this story, the Cadacters were obviously converting the Xenoes from the inside out (Possibly with nanomachines) with how glowy the last Canids were that weren’t completely converted. Why? So far in this story seems that humans did so many things just for sh*ts and giggles. Not exactly the answer you wanted, innit? But seriously though, perhaps it started as even cheaper and expendable work/combat force than Xenos? After all, it’s much cheaper to assemble machines that easier to maintain and repair than raise and keep a race of slaves. Or perhaps humans made those clankas just for wee bit of a craic? I don’t know if the Consortium would allow something to be made for pure misery. They seem to be very goal oriented and any joys from causing misery would be more of a byproduct of what they are researching for.
But I’m not sure about the size of the box and the angle of it. But it seems to be bigger than the xenoes, so this Cadacter like suit might be made for more human sizes, then a xeno.
