She lied to Alpha because she’s a grieving mother who is trapped between the stages of denial bargaining of her grief.
Laura’s ‘father’ is, very likely, Berit’s husband. My guess is he created Laura the xeno, tried to show her to his grieving wife…and the Consortium killed him, and took Laura for themselves.
That would be my first guess as well. There’s also the possibility that Laura the Xeno isn’t just an attempt to create a *replacement* for Laura the Cancer Victim. We see a headstone, but do we know Daddy didn’t steal the body and experiment on it? Could our dear Beta One, be—in her “father’s” mind if not necessarily in reality—Laura Orozco herself? After all, we’ve seen how good Aden’s regenerative abilities are at bringing him back from what should be death. Question is…what kind of shape is she in, both physically and mentally? And how is Berit going to respond when she finally gets to see her again? Years of being forced to endure endless experimentations will not have done her any favors, though they’ve likely been screwing with her head every time they brake their toy anyway. We know they have a machine that can alter memories; possibly straight up replacing them entirely.
