Could this new behavior for Alpha be that next phase of experiment that was mentioned last chapter? If so, it seems like phase 2 is designed to completely destroy the victims sense of self worth and srlf esteem to gain total control by making them think everything they do that they’re not supposed to do is bad, making them bad(usually reinforced with either physical or emotional abuse as well, if not both).
