The human child is a certain doctor’s daughter before she passed away, isn’t she? Aka Laura.
And I’d be willing to bet the cat is a reference to Laura the Xeno, the Xeno clone of Laura the Human(provided our earlier theories are correct).
Hey how messed up would it be if that cat turned out to be the (other) genetic donor for what became our Laura?
Probably still less messed up than *gestured broadly at comic’s premise* but still!
