You can kind of see her point here. At best, you can see that baby as a person and potentially as a legacy to their now dead daughter. I don’t know how capable the mind scanning and programming tech is at this point, but I doubt it’s at the point it could imprint an entire person onto a blank slate of a mind. But that sort of brings up the sad thing about the copy/kill teleport problem, while people can argue outside the problem of if a copy of you still counts as you. The original is still dead and… Read more »
If you take the last two pages into consideration…I’d say he’s still trying to turn Laura into his Laura. The machine seems to be attempting to implant human Laura’s memories intovl Xeno Laura’s head; and causing her a lot of pain as a side effect of their attempts. They probably see the memory implant technology as a way to unlimited, perfectly trained soliders they can throw at any problem. I mean, why waste resources training people when you can override their entire personality with a completely loyal mind instead? Heck, they can already grow soliders, all that’s left is the… Read more »
I don’t know if they are trying to imprint the idea that she is actually human. Afterall, I doubt her father has anything to do with this project considering where we find Larua at the beginning of this story. It could simply be that new programing could be conflicting with the memories she actually gained by living with her father for the short time that it was. But as for what the Consortium thinks about the mind-altering tech, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to see that. They certainly seem to be thinking about making the Xenoes a… Read more »
Well, she did say the memories she was seeing/remembering weren’t hers. That lead me to suspect they’re trying to complete what her father tried to do(as she obviously didn’t have Human Laura’s memories, or at least, not all of them). The machine could be trying to implant a new set of memories, and her mind is digging up whatever it can to protect itself(the mind is a powerful muscle, with surprisingly strong defenses ready to protect it) in an attempt to keep the new memories from replacing the real memories. As for the cables attached to her body? Likely delivering… Read more »
This could also be hinting that the memory wiping machine isn’t as effective as they thought. Or maybe does doesn’t erase memories so much as it puts a block on them, and their experiments on Laura are actually causing the block to come undone..which would be catastrophic for her mental health.
If true that means Aden is still in Alpha’s head, just trapped(but it seems he might be resurfacing as well).
I’m guessing she walked into an ongoing experiment. We might also why Berit was kept away from Laura in the first place soon, because she’s either going to go too far now and risk killing their test subject; or her motherly instincts will cause her to interfere to protect ‘her child’. We’re currently see what appears to be a mental struggle for Berit right now though. On one hand, she despises what Xeno Laura is, on the other hand…she’s hearing her own daughter screaming in pain and begging for them to stop. If Berit actually still has a heart, she’ll… Read more »
